Your article on the Grainger office complex was insulting (July 17). To blame the residents of Mettawa for their failure to persuade a pro-development Lake County Board to turn down Grainger’s plan is ridiculous.

The residents of Mettawa and surrounding areas expressed their views to elected officials in the two ways that are acceptable. They wrote letters expressing their point of view. They also exercised their muscle successfully at the voting booth. It’s our bad luck that the Grainger vote occurred before November when two important pro-growth board members will no longer be in office. If the board vote had been later, your article would probably have praised the residents for their strategy instead.

The fact of the matter is the current board is strongly pro-development. The fact that we were only one vote short of defeating the Grainger plan is a miracle-not a failure.
