The front page of the Tribune (Aug. 5) tells of cutting the funding of a science project at the Argonne labs. The project has already cost $900 million and would cost $400 million to complete. The stoppage may entail the loss of 50 jobs. Well, we saved money, right?
But on page 8 there is a story on the new foreign aid bill, which is to provide $13.7 billion. For the mathematically inclined, that’s about 10 times the cost of the Argonne project, or 34 times what it would take to complete it.
Maybe those who will lose their jobs can find work in Jordan or Rwanda.
