I am a smoker and I have a reasonable request. Most smokers, myself included, do not have a problem with smoking bans in public buildings. For the benefit of nonsmokers, I am willing to make the reasonable accommodation of going outside.

However, if smoking is banned in a facility, the owner should also provide at the entrance a receptacle for depositing cigarette butts. Every day I smoke a cigarette during my walk to the “L” stop and reluctantly throw the butt on the ground before entering the station.

I think it is a reasonable request that a facility provide an ashtray at the entrance if smoking is prohibited inside.
