The 1995 school-tax rate is expected to decrease by 6 cents per $100 assessed valuation in Wheeling Elementary School District 21 because of $1.7 million in debt payoffs.

This means a savings of about $17 for the owner of a $100,000 home.

A $37.9 million 1994 tax levy, down nearly 2 percent from last year, was tentatively approved recently by the District 21 board. The reduced levy should drop the tax rate to $3.16 per $100 assessed valuation, said Dan Cash, finance director.
