The Tire Industry Safety Council in Washington, D.C., has compiled the regulations governing the use of studded snow tires in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
The council notes that if metal studded tires are used on the front axle, they also should be used on the rear for better handling and stability.
Here is a state-by-state rundown on restrictions on metal studded snow tires as of Sept. 13. The council advises that these rules change frequently.
