The label won’t disappear and some younger Canfields are going to stick around, but Chicago’s A.J. Canfield Co., a regional producer of soft drinks, early next month will pass from family control after 70 years.

Two factors appear to be major causes in the decision to sell the company with $100 million annual sales: heightened marketing pressure from much larger competitors and a family dispute over what direction the beverage maker should pursue.

Independent bottler Select Beverages Inc. of suburban Darien is the buyer.
