The city will accelerate efforts to nab drivers who have failed to purchase current city stickers for their vehicles.

The Highland Park Police Department estimates more than 2,000 registered vehicles in the city do not have a current vehicle license. Violators have cost the city close to $100,000 in lost revenues, Mayor Raymond Geraci said at last week’s City Council meeting.

“It is unfair to the thousands of people who have bought the license,” Geraci said. The crackdown will take effect June 15 to give people time to voluntarily comply, he said.
