As is the case with most pundits, Mickey Edwards has taken yet another opportunity to snipe at the President’s foreign- policy decisions with regard to the Soviet Union (Op-Ed, May 22). Edwards says that Clinton “just doesn’t get it.”
I think it is Mickey Edwards who just doesn’t get it. The problem with dealing with the Soviet Union is that they still have the capacity to blow up the world. All that is lacking is the willingness. Acting in a manner that they consider arrogant or belligerent could conjure up that willingness. In the case of the Soviets, gentle persuasion is best, which is the course that Clinton is taking.
