The Village Board on Tuesday took the first step toward addressing flooding and bank erosion along Weller Creek by appointing a six-member ad hoc committee to oversee a study of possible solutions.

The board voted unanimously to award a $55,650 contract to Rust Environment & Infrastructure of Schaumburg to conduct a six- to eight-month study of the problem and come up with recommendations for stabilizing the creek banks.

The consultant also will take a close look at combined sewer overflow points to identify ways of improving creek water quality.

The consultant will report to the ad hoc committee, which will provide some assurance of public input and support for any actions taken along the section of Weller Creek between School Street and Central Road in the middle of Mt. Prospect.
