McHenry High School District 156 board members were doing business as usual Tuesday night, until Wonder Lake resident Judith Anderson addressed the board. Anderson said she represented the 1,000 members of the local group Concerned Taxpayers for Integrity in Government.
Anderson suggested a freeze on administrative salaries and blasted the proposal for a new administrative building.
The new building would replace the administration’s current quarters on Main Street, which have been shared with Elementary District 15.
School District 15 recently bought the former McHenry Public Library building and will be moving.
“There’s not much support for a new administration building if you go up and ask people,” Anderson said. “This building seems fine to me. If it isn’t being maintained, I would like to know why it wasn’t maintained.”
Anderson said District 156 appeared to be moving out just because District 15 was.
But board member James Heffelfinger said the district was concerned about sharing the building with a non-academic tenant once District 15 moves out.
