A residential development of 44 to 48 townhouses just off Milwaukee Avenue is a step closer to becoming reality.
The Village on Monday decided to negotiate for several acres of tax-increment redevelopment property on the site of, and just behind, the condemmed Union Hotel on the west side of Milwaukee Avenue, just south of Dundee Road.
Village officials said mid-July is a tentative goal for preliminary board action on the townhouse proposal by Joseph Freed & Co. The development of the properties is timed to coincide with a state upgrade of Milwaukee Avenue, with the idea of complementing Wheeling’s restaurant row on Milwaukee, Village President Sheila H. Schultz said.
