After years of discussion, the City Council is poised to approve a $1 million contract for construction of the city’s eighth fire station on the far west side.
On Wednesday, the Finance Committee recommended approving the construction contract with RC Wegman Construction Co. of Aurora. It appears there will be no opposition to the contract, and the city already has scheduled a July 18 groundbreaking.
The station, expected to be completed in early 1996, would be on the southeast corner of Orchard Road and Illinois Avenue. Its design will be very similar to the city’s most recently constructed fire station on the far east side on Molitor Road.
