Circus Jerkus is to cutting-edge audiences what the shopping mall is to bored teenagers.
To illustrate, here are some highlights for this year’s installment:
Mindy Schwartz will provide customized “nose augmentation,” providing patrons with personal (and, fortunately, temporary) plasic surgery, all of it intended as improvements on the original.
Kari Percival offers a “fake mentorship program” where she matches inquirers with role models–who happen to be cows.
Jenny Knowleton operates a “heavy petting zoo,” which allegedly gives nature-lovers some new outlets for their curiosity.
Circus Jerkus, the sixth annual performance art benefit at the adverturesome Randolph Street Gallery, is a three-hour marathon of eclectic acts, including interactive performances by and with 25 of Chicago’s more inventive artists.
Erupting in three spaces at the gallery, it’s a chance to sample the exponential diversity of Chicago’s acting art scene.
The madness begins at 7:30 p.m. Then at midnight, the music kicks in. Randolph Street Gallery isn’t on Randolph Street, it’s at 756 N. Milwaukee. Admission is $9. Call 312-666-7737.
