The 16-bit market, although on its hands and knees, gives us these gifts to play with for Super Nes and Game Boy.
– EarthBound for Super Nes; $69.95
The first word that comes to mind is simply “excellent.” EarthBound is primed to become a classic, undoubtedly joining the ranks of Zelda and Final Fantasy, two legendary games in their own right.
EarthBound’s great theme and story just blew me away. You begin the game as Ness, on a mission to defeat the evil space alien Giygas. As you travel the many lands that this game sports, you will be joined by Paula, Jeff and Prince Poo on your mission.
EarthBound is the complete package. It has everything you ever wanted in a role-playing game, and its graphics among other things are awesome. The game play is truly remarkable–the players move incredibly smoothly. If you ask me, Nintendo has just upped the standards for the next generation of role-playing games.
The only video game I’m looking forward to next year is a sequel to this great cart.
– Bass Masters Classic for Super Nes; $69.99
Bass Masters Classic is one heckuva fishing cart. Its unusual features include 3-D underwater views and vivid fishing lure sounds. This is a game whose appeal will not be limited to just fishing fanatics.
Bass Masters is one of the better fishing games for the 16-bit system and should definitely be checked out. It has a style that will make gamers everywhere jump out of their seats, with its realistic fishing action. So if you’re looking for a fishing cart that’s head and shoulders above the rest, check out Bass Masters Classic.
– PGA European Tour for Super Game Boy; $29.99
PGA European Tour is just another game for the outdated Game Boy and its companion, Super Game Boy. The only good thing about PGA is that you can compete against four real-life golf pros including Jose Maria Olazabal from Spain, Ronan Rafferty (Northern Ireland), Constantino Rocca (Italy) and lan Woosnam (Wales). Exciting, huh?
When you get down to it, there is nothing special about PGA: It has the usual Game Boy graphics and rrrreally ssshaky sounds. PGA is nothing but a recycled version of earlier golf games; it won’t even make my Top 10 list. Send it back to the drawing board.
– Kirby’s Dream Land for Game Boy; $23.99. Kirby’s Dream Land is yet another title in this cutesy Game Boy series by Nintendo. In this epic Kirby must save Dream Land from the evil Dark Matter. This time to aid him he has recruited Rick the Hamster, Coo the Owl and Kine the Fish.
Kirby’s Dream Land 2 has the average Game Boy graphics with simple sound and moderate contrast. Yet it has the style of play that makes you wish the game would never end. Kirby has my vote if you are looking for a good time on a mediocre system.
