Birthday: Nov. 17, 1960.
Birthplace: San Diego.
Real name: RuPaul Andre Charles.
Occupation: Performer.
Current home: Manhattan.
Marital status: Single.
Working on: I’ve written my autobiography, “Lettin’ It All Hang Out” (Hyperion); I’m modeling, performing; I’ve got a new video, “Free to Be”; and I’m in “Wigstock: The Movie.”
The last good movie I saw: “The Little Princess.”
I stay home to watch: “Style with Elsa Klensch” on CNN.
The book I’ve been reading: Sidney Lumet’s “Making Movies.”
Favorite pig-out food: Tacos with lots of hot sauce.
Favorite childhood memory: My sister Renetta took me on picnics. She just spread a blanket and put out a bag of cookies, but she made me realize that you could make magic out of anything.
Prized possession: My CD collection. I love music. When I travel, I don’t buy clothes. I can get those in New York. I buy CDs.
Personal heroes: Diana Ross and Cher. They were oddballs and underdogs and they made it big time. I thought, “If they can do it, I can do it.” And I’m not a Christian, but I dig Jesus Christ, in terms of his self-realization.
Nobody knows I’m: Intense and introverted.
I wish I could stop: Living in fear.
I’m better than anyone else when it comes to: Loving myself.
If I could do it over: I would have shaved my eyebrows much sooner. It really changed my look.
My fantasy is: I’m in Tahiti, drinking a fruit punch, listening to Luther Vandross on my Walkman.
People who knew me in high school thought I was: Flamboyant, strange, weird, everything that I am and that I’ve built into a cottage industry.
Behind my back my friends say: “He’s self-obsessed.”
Most humbling experience: Looking at Mt. Fuji and feeling like a tiny speck.
Three words that best describe me: You better work.
