In his Nov. 1 Op-Ed page column, Clarence Page expressed sympathy for Quebec’s Francophones, and he compared their alienation to that of African-Americans.

Quite contrary to his intent, however, if one substitutes “Southerner” for “Francophones” and “Confederacy” for Quebecois, he has unwittingly made the most articulate argument for secession since Jefferson Davis.
