The Police Department’s Good Neighbor award was presented recently to three men who helped pull two women from a burning car following an accident Oct. 20 in Winfield.
Frank Indelli of West Chicago, Robert Stonehocker Jr., of Winfield and Wallace Cruse of Arlington Heights were presented plaques for their bravery in helping the women, both of whom are police department employees.
Linda Smith, a secretary with the investigations unit, and Judy Zaremba, the police chief’s secretary, were trapped in a car after it was allegedly struck from behind by a suspected drunken driver and pushed into a car in front of theirs. The women were pulled from their car after it caught fire and its doors were jammed by the impact.
