A proposed senior citizen housing project that was stalled last year due to funding problems may be back on track.

The village board Tuesday night agreed to help North West Housing Partnership apply for a $50,000 Community Development Block Grant, which would be used to install sewer lines at the planned site at the corner of Landmeier and Arlington Heights Roads.

Due to the block grant regulations, private non-profit agencies like North West Housing Partnership are not eligible to receive funding designated for such an improvement project. But the village can submit an application for the funds and receive the block grant.

Before the village applies for the grant, a public hearing will be held on March 4.

North West Housing Partnership based in Rolling Meadows has proposed building a 3-story, 80-unit residence for low-income seniors. The Housing Partnership has secured some funding from Cook County and a local bank and is currently seeking more backing and tax credit assistance from the state.

If funding comes through, North West Housing Partnership officials say construction could begin by mid-July.
