Loyola sectional: No. 2 Loyola (27-1), which advances to face Resurrection, won its 22nd straight game and second straight regional title with a 66-36 triumph over Regina. Freshman Olga Gvodenovic starred with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
“Playing a team for the third time is very difficult,” said Loyola coach Tanya Johnson. “But our girls came into tonight with an intense attitude and were very determined.”
No. 5 Maine West (22-7) began its 86-42 defeat of Glenbrook North with a 12-0 run and closed the first quarter by scoring seven unanswered points. Salena Miller led the Warriors with 21 points. West’s Eileen Kerrigan was 6 for 6 from the field and scored 17 points, Dawn Vana added 13 and Julie Fregetto scored 10 and grabbed 12 rebounds.
Kelly Collins paced North (19-9) with 19 points.
Maine West faces No. 7 Maine South (26-3), which downed Evanston 57-44 behind Renee Schaul’s 17 points.
Downers Grove North sectional: Despite 23 turnovers and shooting just 38 percent from the field, No. 12 Naperville North (28-2) eliminated Benet 44-25. The Huskies were led by Alicia Stewart, who had 12 points and 10 rebounds. Hollie Jo Renner added 10, as did Auburn-bound senior T.J. Williams, playing her final home game in Naperville.
Casey Leonhardt had 23 points, 15 rebounds and five blocks as Downers Grove North (22-7) downed Glenbard West 65-47. Mary McGrane added 18 points.
Freshman Kristi Faulkner scored 30 in a losing effort.
Downers North will face Wheaton-Warrenville South (20-8), which edged West Chicago 40-35 behind Jannette Hallahan’s 12 points.
Lyons Township sectional: Amanda Miller’s 15 points led No. 19 Lyons Township past Immaculate Heart of Mary 51-35. IHM (10-16) cut the Lions’ lead to 40-34 with 1:17 left in regulation but was outscored 11-1 in the final minute.
Lyons will face Fenwick, which triumphed over York 55-48. Brenna Smith’s 18 points and 10 rebounds led the Friars (20-9).
Leah Berki collected 18 points and 10 rebounds off the bench for Hinsdale Central (22-5) in its 55-44 defeat of Nazareth Academy.
Hinsdale will meet Willowbrook (21-4), a 64-45 winner over Oak Park. Yolanda Lewis’ 18 points led the Warriors.
Public League playoffs: In second-round action, No. 13 Marshall (21-5) eliminated Lindblom 75-21 as Kimya Murray netted 18 points and Sabrina Minter added 16 points, eight steals and seven rebounds.
Marshall will face Phillips (21-7), which downed Westinghouse 61-48 as Patricia Wansley posted a triple-double and Toya Hess had 14 points and 12 rebounds. Wansley finished with 24 points, 10 rebounds and 10 steals.
No. 14 Young (22-6) dispatched Curie 95-39 as Natasha Pointer totaled 27 points, nine assists and five steals, Danielle Pinkston 22 points and Clarissa Flores 17 points, nine assists and seven steals.
Young will face Dunbar (21-5), which pulled away in the third quarter to beat Crane 104-82. Ronina Sims’ 20 points and 14 rebounds led five players in double figures. Stephanie Robinson’s 34 points weren’t enough for Crane.
No. 15 Washington (23-5) posted a 76-38 victory over Fenger behind Damita Evans’ 15 points, Beverly Holmes’ 13 and 12 apiece from Michelle Artis and Tyanna Jones. Washington will meet Morgan Park, which defeated Roosevelt 92-51. Constance Jinks paced Morgan Park (24-6) with 23 points.
Lane Tech, a 46-35 winner over Simeon, will battle Hyde Park, which handled Prosser 77-44.
Immaculate Conception regional: Timothy Christian (22-7) used a balanced attack that saw four girls reach double figures to claim the regional crown with a 62-43 victory over Driscoll (15-12). Kristi Bosman and Rachel Boerema each had 16 for Timothy.
Madonna regional: Melissa Matthews’ 20 points led Madonna (14-12) past Luther North 58-46.
