Will someone please inform your editorial writer that Democrat Ron Wyden’s election in Oregon was anything but “a strong backlash against GOP environmental mischief.” Ron Wyden won with less than 50 percent of the vote.

In fact, if several independents (who combined had about 3 percent of the vote) hadn’t run, Wyden’s Republican opponent would probably have won. When less than half of the people in a primarily Democratic state vote for a Democrat, that hardly constitutes “a strong backlash.” And by saying “GOP environmental mischief,” you are begging the question, which would be like if I asked you, “When did you stop beating your wife?”

What the Republicans want to do with the Environmental Protection Agency is cut the fat out of it. If I want to build a house in the woods, I first have to check with the EPA to make sure there are no endangered moles under the soil. I think that’s ridiculous, and so does the GOP.
