Robert A. Poder, 65, a retired Chicago Fire Department battalion chief, died Thursday in his home in Prospect Heights. He was formerly a resident of Norwood Park. Chief Poder was a Chicago firefighter for 32 years. He was made chief of Battalion 3 in 1979. “He was very proud to have served with the fire department,” his wife, Yvonne, said. “His family and country were very important to him.” Other survivors, include three daughters, Linda Ellis, Sharon Porter and Laura Corliss; his parents, Anthony and Helen; a brother; and eight grandchildren. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Monday in M.J. Suerth Funeral Home, 6754 N. Northwest Hwy., Chicago. Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
