The Plan Commission on Wednesday night began considering an upgrade of the street system to keep travel safe and efficient.
The city has grown significantly over the last 25 years, particularly west of Green Bay Road.
The plan shown to commission members calls for the extension of current streets as well as the construction of new thoroughfares. It recommends extending Conway Farms Drive south to serve future development at the southeast corner of the subdivision of the same name. Field Drive, which serves the Conway Farms business park, would be extended north to Bradley Road.
Streets are recommended to be built connecting Oak Knoll Drive and Stablewood Lane; connecting a section of Oak Knoll north of Estate Lane East to a section south of Old Mill Road; connecting Telegraph Road and Aspen Drive; and connecting Reilly Lane to Ridge Road and Whitmore Road.
Other streets may be planned for the city’s northwest corner, where the next wave of residential growth may occur, the plan states.
The plan also calls for renovations at Kennedy Road’s intersection with Interstate Highway 94 and new traffic signals at Academy Road and Field Drive. Similar changes are proposed along Waukegan Road at Westmoreland, Westleigh, Everett and Old Mill Roads and Deerpath Avenue.
