A Chicago steelmaker was accused Wednesday of violating the Clean Air Act.

In a lawsuit filed Wednesday in U.S. District Court, Acme Steel Co. is alleged to have violated federal pollution emission standards at three local plants: a coke plant at 11236 S. Torrence Ave., Chicago, and blast furnaces at 10730 Burley Ave., Chicago, and a basic oxygen furnace shop at 13500 S. Perry Ave., Riverdale.

The complaint seeks to prohibit further violations and to collect a possible penalty of as much as $25,000 a day.
