A Navy F-14B fighter crashed and exploded at Oceana Naval Air Station near Virginia Beach, Va., Wednesday, and the two crewmen ejected safely, the Navy said. The supersonic jet crashed while attempting to land at the Navy air base in southeastern Virginia, said Lt. Carla McCarthy. It was the fourth F-14 crash this year; the three others resulted in seven deaths. The pilot and radar intercept officer were in good condition at a clinic on the base, where they were taken for observation, McCarthy said. The jet, which was part of Squadron VF-101 based at Oceana, went down just short of the runway at the base.
