Grace Lutheran School on the city’s West Side will be celebrating its 100th anniversary this week. When it opened in 1896, only five students attended classes in the storefront school located in an area known as Crawford that was primarily settled by German immigrants. A church building was constructed in 1905, followed by a regular school building in 1922. The school now has 100 pupils in an area that is now known as the Little Village neighborhood, with a largely Hispanic population. The anniversary celebration will include an anniversary service, followed by a banquet and a silent auction. Among other things, partygoers will be able to bid on an opportunity to sit at the CBS Radio Sports broadcast booth during a Bears game at Soldier Field. Tickets for the banquet are $25.

Sunday services: 9 a.m. English/Spanish; 3 p.m. anniversary service, Grace Lutheran Church, located across the street from the school at 4106 W. 28th St.; followed at 5 p.m. by a banquet and auction at Ravello’s, 7117 W. Ogden Ave., Berwyn.
