Your June 23 editorial “An unwise intrusion by the court” states:

“But why should it be illegal to draw districts so as to empower minorities that were long disenfranchised and oppressed? Doing so doesn’t deny representation to the white majority; it merely changes the color of the representative.”

By the same logic, the black Americans weren’t denied representation before 1962; representation was by a person of a different color.
