Zenith Electronics Corp. reported a second-quarter loss of $33.2 million, or 51 cents a share, compared with a loss of $45.3 million, or 97 cents a share, a year earlier. The Glenview-based maker of television sets and cable TV equipment said that sales for the second quarter were off 1 percent, to $282 million from $285 million.

For the six months, Zenith’s loss was $68.5 million, or $1.06 a share, compared with a loss of $69.6 million, or $1.50 a share, a year earlier. First-half sales declined 5 percent, to $520 million from $547 million.
