BELCH WATER, DOG SOUP, GEORGE EDDY: In a Food section story on soda fountains, the National Association of Soda Jerks, which is “dedicated to the preservation of American nostalgia,” defined some long-lost jerk jargon. For instance, “belch water” was a glass of soda. “Dog soup” was plain water. And a “George Eddy” was a non-tipper (origin unknown).
