John Patrick Ryan, 88, a longtime Northfield resident, died Friday in a Vero Beach, Fla. hospital of an aneurysm. A native of New Jersey, Mr. Ryan moved to Northfield in 1955, when he began working for the Chicago office of Goldman Sachs & Co. as a sales manager. He retired in 1974. As a Northfield resident, Mr. Ryan served several terms on the Village Board, was a member of the Bond Club of Chicago and was an avid gardener and a member of the New Trier Men’s Garden Club. He and his wife of 60 years, Mari, moved to Florida a year ago. In World War II he was an air raid warden, making sure city streets were clear after sirens sounded. In addition to his wife, Mr. Ryan is survived by a son, John Jr.; a daughter, Mari Dysart; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; and a sister. Mass will be said Wednesday at 11 a.m. in St. Philip the Apostle Church, 1962 Old Willow Rd., Northfield.
