Gov. Jim Edgar announced Tuesday an expansion of the state’s “Project Success,” which uses local schools to give children and their families more direct assistance from public health and social programs.
Expansion of the program, which began in 1991, will bring the number of schools participating to 600 in 162 communities across the state. The program has helped more than 200,000 children and their families, Edgar said.
Among the communities added to the program are selected schools in Lombard, Country Club Hills, Aurora, Palos Township and North Chicago.
In addition, new schools will be added to the program in McHenry County, Maywood and Chicago’s Uptown, Rogers Park, Austin and Morgan Park neighborhoods.
