Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

I read with interest your feature headlined “Let it flow” (Your Money, Aug. 7). I’d like to take this opportunity to correct misleading information attributed to Baytel Associates.

The Brita (not Britta) water-filter system is not just a carbon filter, as your story suggests. In fact, our filter is carbon plus an ion-exchange resin. The carbon portion of the filter is responsible for filtering out chlorine taste, odors and sediments. The ion exchange portion is responsi-ble for removing more than 90 percent of lead, as well as copper, zinc and water hard-ness that can cause scale and scum buildup in appliances.

The Brita water filter system is certified by NSF International, the nation’s leading independent certification laboratory for plumbing and water-filtration products and also is registered with the Environmental Protection Agency.
