Bravo!

MONEY TALKS

The Gimmick Formerly Known As Dennis Rodman was suspended by the Bulls–not the NBA, mind you, the Bulls–for two games for dropping all those F-bombs on the officials after Sunday night’s game in Toronto. It’ll cost Rodman more than $104,000, which will go to charity.

For his part, Rodman sounded downright contrite Tuesday. He apologized to the public and referees for all the naughty words he used.

Bulls hoops honcho Jerry Krause couldn’t have written it any better. Probably because Krause wrote it in the first place.

CASE CLOSED

The Cubs formally announced the signing of closer Mel Rojas, a free agent who had 66 saves in the last two seasons for Montreal.

But with ace Jaime Navarro gone, the Cubs’ starting staff consists of Steve Trachsel, Terry Mulholland and three guesses.

Which means this season will be the days of whine and Rojas.

BLOCKHEAD MILITIA

Bob Hill was fired as coach of the San Antonio Spurs. Hill was 3-15, all without center David Robinson.

General Manager Gregg Popovich, who fired Hill, will take over. The move came the same day that Robinson returned to the lineup.

Lucky break for Popovich, huh?

WAYNE’S WORLD

Wayne Larrivee will remain the play-by-play voice of the Bears, moving with the team from WGN-AM (720) to WMAQ-AM (670) next year.

Hope he can find a quarterback on his way over.

MONEY TALKS

Blackhawks General Manager Bob Pulford took most of the blame for the team’s sorry offense and lousy stretch of late. Pulford said he knew the team needed a No. 2 center, but hasn’t gotten one yet.

Thing is, those kinds of guys cost money, and team president Bill Wirtz doesn’t want to pay anyone more than the $3.5 million they’re giving Chris Chelios.

Quick, someone see if No. 2 centers are on sale at Wal-Mart this holiday season.
