The Czech Republic and Cuba on Tuesday signed a trade cooperation agreement seeking to re-establish commercial links lost after the fall of communism in Prague in 1989, the Czech Industry and Trade Ministry said.

The agreement was signed by Czech Industry and Trade Minister Vladimir Dlouhy and Cuban Foreign Trade Minister Ricardo Cabrisas in Singapore, where they are attending the World Trade Organization’s ministerial conference.

Details of the agreement were not provided.

Total Czech trade with Cuba, excluding Slovakia, plummeted to $2.32 billion in 1994, which was just 1.3 percent of total bilateral trade between the countries in 1989.
