We don’t know about you, but we’ve always thought Persian New Year, celebrated on the first day of spring, was a much more logical choice for the holiday than the middle of winter.
For starters, the weather is a lot friendlier to heels and a cocktail dress.
But you don’t have to travel to Iran to enjoy a new year’s blowout in March. Local restaurants and the Iranian-American Cooperation Center will celebrate this event along with Illinois’ Iranian-American Heritage Day (Friday) with a host of concerts, dances and meals:
Friday: Whitefish and vegetable rice dinners served at Reza’s Restaurants (432 W. Ontario/5255 N. Clark St.) and Cy’s Crab House (3819 N. Ashland Ave.)
Saturday: Concert by Mahasti, Hassan Shameezadeh and Koros. $35-$40.
Sunday: Kids show with Pars Ballet Group. $10. (All at Rosemont Convention Center.)
March 28: Pop and traditional bands Shaahram Solati, Fattaneh, Boys and Delaram.
March 29: Concert by country and pop bands including Nematolah Agassi (above,) Nooshafarin and Jamileh. (All at Chicago Hilton and Towers.) $35 or $60 for both. 312-922-2300.
