Al Gore’s gift on his 49th birthday? Billy Crystal.
The comedian and Oscar host poked fun at the vice president during the Academy Awards last week, telling the audience, “The only one guaranteed with waking up with a statue is Tipper Gore.”
Gore’s staff said Crystal and singer Johnny Cash each called in their best wishes during a Monday afternoon party in Washington, also attended by President Clinton.
And staffers who collected $300 for a present instead donated the money in Gore’s name to tornado victims in Tennessee. Gore spokeswoman Heidi Kukis said the money would be given to the Salvation Army.
