The Homer Township Board approved Monday night a 1997-98 budget of about $733,000 for the township and a budget of about $2.7 million for the road and highway fund.

Both budgets represent an approximate 2.5 percent increase over last year’s budgets, said Ethel Rodriguez, the township clerk.

Greg Fisch, the township supervisor, said there are significant differences in this year’s township budget. For example, he said, the township will receive revenue of $12,000 next year for leasing space for a telecommunications tower.

The township will spend $10,000 on senior citizens’ programs, an increase of $5,000 from last year.

Fisch said the township has decided not to dissolve its water fund, which has $5,200 in it. “That money would be used to decide if it’s legal or feasible for the township to be involved in management of a water system,” Fisch said.
