Unannounced safety inspections by the Illinois Department of Labor may lead to some tinkering with village policies in Cary and Fox River Grove.

State inspector Edna D’Merin checked Fox River Grove’s water and sewer department, streets and parks, and fire department, as well as Cary’s fire department. Her inspections, all last week, focused on safety policies, procedures, tools and equipment.

“She gave us advice about policies we should have,” said Fox River Grove Supt. of Sewers and Water Dan Hughes. “She said we should update our procedures and write formal policies. Other than that, we came out fine.”

He said drafts of the policies would be done by month’s end.

D’Merin said she had not finished her reports so she didn’t know what citations would be issued. She said her department has up to six months to file reports.

“I finished Fox River Grove streets and parks and I made no citations,” she said. “I don’t know about the other (ones).”
