An Englewood District tactical officer was shot in the ankle while investigating a report of shots fired on the South Side Wednesday.
Officer Terrance Nalls was treated and released at Holy Cross Hospital for a gunshot wound to the left ankle, a hospital spokeswoman said.
The shooting occurred about 3:45 p.m. as Nalls and his partner were responding to shots being fired in the 7300 block of South Morgan Street, police said.
The officer heard shots and entered a back yard where a gunman allegedly opened fire on them, hitting Nalls, police said.
The suspect was arrested and charges were pending, police said. The man was allegedly shooting at a 15-year-old boy, but the reason was unknown.
