Lombard police have new ticketing power, under a new village ordinance.
The Village Board vote allows police to target parked cars that do not display a valid license plate. Police Chief Lee Kutzke said the ordinance will lets officers hand out minor fines in the form of administrative citations for violations.
Officials said the goal is to ticket cars that may have been driven with invalid plates. Before, police could issue a ticket only if a driver was behind the wheel.
Kutzke said the rule is not aimed at collectors who might store vehicles on private property. Cars subject to ticketing will be those left on public streets or in parking lots of apartment complexes that allow the ordinance’s enforcement.
