A masked gunman shot and killed a top aide to Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic in a Belgrade restaurant, independent media reported. Radovan Stojicic, Serbia’s deputy interior minister, was killed early Friday while he sat with his 16-year-old son, Belgrade’s BK Television reported. A friend of Stojicic’s, who was also sitting at the table, was wounded, Serbian state television said. It was unclear who was behind the killing of Stojicic, one of Milosevic’s closest and most trusted associates, who oversaw public security for Serbia’s police. Serbia is the dominant partner in what now remains of the Yugoslav federation.
