Attorneys for Cook County filed suit in Circuit Court Friday against major tobacco firms.
The lawsuit seeks to stop the tobacco industry from misrepresenting “the effects of tobacco.” It also seeks to recover the costs for treating patients at County Hospital with tobacco-related illnesses.
Cook County joins at least 16 other cities and counties and 22 states, including Illinois, with similar lawsuits pending against tobacco companies.
