Village officials heard recommendations Monday night for the future use of four vacant parcels in and near Hanover Park.
Phil Hanegraaf, a consultant to the village Development Commission, recommended that the largest parcel, a 22-acre site in the Turnberry Lakes area at the northwest corner of Lake Street and Gary Avenue, which he called “a major community entryway to the village,” be put to a significant commercial land use.
“The quality, image, and appearance of development of this corner should set the tone for future change along the Elgin-O’Hare corridor,” Hanegraaf said.
He said a 12-acre parcel on the north side of Lake Street west of Bartels Road, and a 20-acre parcel south of Lake Street and west of Bartels Road, both currently unincorporated, should be used for light industrial.
The fourth site, a 2.5-acre parcel owned by the village at County Farm Road and Stearns Road, should be for neighborhood commercial use such as restaurants or a drug store, he said.
The Village Board will ultimately have to approve uses of the land.
