Acting baseball commissioner and Milwaukee Brewers owner Bud Selig is surely drooling at the thought of the Cubs playing in Miller Park six times every summer. A single Central Division would be a major boost to the small-market, small-crowd clubs; it would include Houston, Kansas City, Milwaukee and Minnesota. On the other hand, much of the summer would be nap time for Chicago fans as these boring, low-budget teams shuffle in and out of town. As if expansion and ownership decisions haven’t made Chicago baseball bad enough, geographical realignment would further devalue the Chicago baseball experience.

As revenue from tickets and skyboxes becomes more crucial, the small-market clubs look to geographical realignment as a salvation. To owners of the Cubs, White Sox, Mets, Yankees and Dodgers: Don’t let them do it.
