Eighteen schools under construction and renovation in Elgin-based School District U-46 will open on time later this month, district officials said Monday night.
Andy Patete, director of plant operations for the district, told school board members at the regular meeting that all classroom areas in the 18 buildings will be available when the school year begins Aug. 27.
Most notable among the projects is construction of Bartlett High School. Built to eventually house 2,300 students, the school will be ready for the approximately 1,150 students expected this year, officials said.
“There is some last-minute work, but we achieved substantial completion by Aug. 1,” Patete said.
Though work at Bartlett High and other schools will continue into September, Patete said classroom areas would not be affected.
The board also had good news for athletes and their fans at Streamwood High School, with the announcement that the school’s new stadium will be ready for the first football game Aug. 29. Streamwood High also is the site of newly completed tennis courts.
