Village officials spelled out to Barrington School District 220 Monday night the conditions for constructing an elementary school on a 30-acre site at the southwest corner of Bartlett and Penny Roads.

The conditions include meeting all state and federal Environmental Protection Agency standards for water and soil quality, providing landscaping and berming on the south and east side of the property and paying part of the cost of installing traffic signals at Bartlett and Penny Roads.

Nancy Nemec, president of the District 220 school board, could not say if the conditions are acceptable to the school district. “We will have to take it back to the board for discussion,” she said. “We’ll be talking about it.”

District officials say they will not support a South Barrington Plan Commission recommendation of a 90-foot setback for the school from the property line. The berming and landscaping was a compromise proposal of trustees to satisfy homeowners who wanted a buffer between the school and their homes.
