Sigmund S. “Ziggy” Wozniak, 87, a longtime Chicago carpenter contractor who built the clubhouse at the Gleneagles Golf Course in Lemont, died Monday in Delnor Community Hospital in Geneva following a stroke. A longtime South Side resident, Mr. Wozniak built the clubhouse in the 1950s and then became the building’s maintenance engineer. He retired from that job in 1962, but continued working as a self-employed carpenter until he became ill this year, his grandson, Larry Stachura, said. Besides carpentry, one of Mr. Wozniak’s favorite activities was watching the Chicago Cubs. “He never missed a game,” Stachura said. Other survivors include two daughters; Melinda Stachura and Priscilla Yonker; a sister, Delores Biedent; a brother, Stanley; and three other grandchildren. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in Conley Funeral Home, 116 W. Pierce St., Elburn. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Church of St. Mary, 120 S. County Line Road, Maple Park.
