A ride inspector from the state met with the Six Flags Great America maintenance staff Monday regarding an accident over the weekend on one of the park’s more popular rides.

Two men and two women riding on the American Eagle roller coaster were slightly injured Sunday morning when some of the cars collided at the end of the ride. They were all were treated and released from St. Therese Medical Center in Waukegan.

The ride was closed on Sunday and is expected to reopen this weekend, said park spokeswoman Connie Costello. The park is operating on a weekends-only schedule, she said.

But Carl Kimble, the chief inspector for the Illinois Department of Labor, said nothing will happen until his agency performs a follow-up inspection. “We want to know why this failure occurred and what can be done to prevent failures in the future,” he said.
