No injuries were reported in the wake of a mid-morning fire that struck a frame duplex at 428 Wisconsin St.

According to Genoa City Fire Chief Harold Armstrong, the call reached the fire station at 10:05 a.m. and was put out within 20 minutes. The Bloomfield and Richmond fire departments were also dispatched to the scene as back-up units.

Ascribing the cause of the fire to “children and matches,” Armstrong said it could have been confined to a single room but quickly spread when the homeowner mistakenly opened the door to that room and allowed the fire to breathe.

“It was a one-room contents fire” that got out of hand, Armstrong said.
