The McHenry County Conservation District voted Thursday to formally oppose two separate developments that are planned near conservation sites.
The first is a business plan that includes a gas station, car wash and dry cleaners in Crystal Lake, near the Lake in the Hills Fen and 138 acres that the district is in the process of buying.
The Crystal Lake Zoning Board of Appeals voted this week to recommend the plan, which would allow the construction on about 3 1/2 acres at the southeast corner of Ackman and Randall Roads.
The Crystal Lake Plan Commission is scheduled to hear the petition next week.
The second development the district voted to oppose is a planned subdivision of homes on 40 acres of farmland on State Highway 23, near Marengo.
The property is directly south of MCCD’s Marengo Ridge Conservation Area.
