Bond was set at $1 million Wednesday for a Chicago Heights man who was arrested in connection with the beating of a South Chicago Heights woman in unincorporated Crete Township, police said.
Police arrested Scott A Smado, 28, of 17 W. 21st St., Chicago Heights, Wednesday. He had been wanted on a warrant for attempted first-degree murder and aggravated battery in connection with the Sept. 15 beating of a South Chicago Heights woman.
Smado was arrested about 5 a.m. Wednesday by police in his home. He was found hiding in the attic of the house, said Will County sheriff’s police Sgt. Lynn Jencon.
Smado was wanted on a warrant for the beating of the 42-year-old woman that occurred after the two met in a tavern in Steger, Jencon said.
The woman was left in the 2200 block of Richton Road in unincorporated Crete Township. Police were called after she managed to make it to a nearby farmhouse, police said.
Police would only say the woman was taken to an area hospital. Police also said they had no motive for the attack.
“She left the tavern with him because he was supposed to give her a tattoo, but that’s not how it turned out,” Jencon said. Smado has tattoos on his arms, chest, back and neck. However, it was not known if he knew how to do tattoo work.
